Italy is a Place in Berlin

Let’s be honest. If there’s fine cuisine to be found in Berlin, it’s probably italian. Nothing against all the great chinese, japanese, mexican, ethiopian, lebanese or indian diners – but most of them won’t live up to that Insalata Buffala, Lasagna Verde or Tartuffo Bianco a certain “Ristorante”, “Enoteca” or “Trattoria” serves in your need to indulge. Here’s a list of fine, yet affordable italian places around town:

La Vita e Bella
Located on Belziger Strasse, this little restaurant has something most others lack – the loving hand of a Mamma to urge you into trying her Calzone or swordfish steak. Pizzas are unbelievably delicious and go well with a Birra Moretti from the tap.

Sale & Tabacchi
What a place! Located right around Check Point Charlie (U Kochstrasse). Great selection of wine, premium menu. I strongly recommend reserving a table well in advance.

La Scala
Scala is situated on Rosentahler Strasse (U Rosenthaler Platz and then down towards Hackescher Markt), it is easily accessable from both Prenzlauer Berg and Mitte. Pretty crowded at lunch hours – but who could blame them? Pizza & Pasta is all at 6 EUR at those hours! The interior is trying to resemble the inside of the great Opera in Milan – hence the name – La Scala.

Trattoria Paparazzi
It’s cozy. They have great food and wonderful sweets – plan to visit for a nice entirely satisfying dinner. It can be found a bit down Schönhauser Allee from U Eberswalder Strasse, at Husemannstrasse 35.

Buon Appetito!
